Westwood Secondary Friendly 13/03/11

The Whining 11 squad turn up with the long lost blue jersey in this game. Notably lack of fire power with several attacking missing. Asen started in goal with Zhenquan, Simon, Fat and Daniel lining up from right to left. Had loan signing Weikang on left mid duty while Seng started on the right. Centre pair was Lewis and Rixian. While Xianxi and Taran started up front. Saran, Chai and Adrian started on the bench.

Team BOB are a team comfortable with ball on feet and effective one touches with good passing range. The Whiners never had the chance to hold possession for long with their constant pressure and our own poor touches. And after about 10 minutes Whiners were down 1-0. Ball came through the right wing with a hint of offside but the goal stood and the team let their heads hung low. Soon after Whiners conceded the 2nd when a free kick came in but the rebound was not cleared in time and Team BOB's striker hooked in the rebound from close range. Not long before chaos happened again when a ball slipped through and Asen was left helpless 1 on 1 and lost out. Taran had a header saved as the Whiners seek to get back into the game. The half fizzled out in poor fashion from both sides.

After the break midfield dynamo Chai was introduced in place of Seng and Adrian stayed in the middle after replacing Lewis in the first half, Taran moved out to the right wing, while Saran took up Zhenquan's right back berth. The substitutions were starting to have some impact but the Whiners conceded a fourth when Team Bob's striker picked up a rebound and slotted in. But the Whiners battle on and start to string a few moves, pressuring high and winning challenges. Saran tried a free kick just into the opponents' half and his low shot was blocked. Soon after Chai snatched at a chance to lob volley over the keeper and it went just wide off the post. The pressured finally paid off when a free kick was won just outside their area and up stepped Simon to whip in a stupendous free kick off the underside of the bar. With confidence growing the Whiners soon made it 4-2 when Saran hit a long shot from our own half which flew into the top right hand corner. Talk about superb technique and power! More chances are created but the Whiners failed to get on the scoreboard again but it was at least a good 2nd half performance. Let's have more of the same spirit we displayed in the 2nd half!
